Skateboard Demo
This Saturday!

A skateboard demonstration and clinic will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the Maple Skate Park.

From 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., demonstrations and coaching will be provided by experts from the Board Room skateboard shop.

Retiring K-9 Dog Honored by County Officials
Currituck Sheriff Susan Johnson and members of the Sheriff's Office joined the Board of Commissioners on May 18, 2009 to publicly honor "Buck", a K-9 deputy dog who is retiring from service. Buck's handler, Deputy Randy Jones, was also recognized during the ceremony and received an award of appreciation from Chairman Owen Etheridge.

Buck served Currituck County for seven years, during which time he assisted with numerous drug busts and arrests. Buck was sent into retirement with a box of steaks and dog treats. More

Currituck Water Department on the Move
Beginning on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, the Currituck Water Department's mainland staff offices and customer service center will be located at the new water treatment facility in Maple.

Customers wishing to pay water bills in person will be served by a convenient drive-up window at the new office, which is located at 444 Maple Road. The county's newest water plant is across Maple Road from the Currituck Sheriff's Office, and features a Reverse Osmosis treatment process, laboratory, and administrative offices.

The phone number for the Water Department will remain 232-2769 for any residents with questions or concerns about water service.

National EMS Week - Get Out & Meet an Ambulance Crew
Residents may meet members of Currituck Emergency Medical Services at various times and locations throughout the county this week, as Currituck recognizes National EMS Week from May 17 - 23, 2009.

EMS crews will offer citizens blood pressure checks, tours of the county's new ambulances, and health information. EMS members will also be able to discuss the department's various community programs and opportunities for citizens to become involved as a volunteer with EMS or a Volunteer Fire Department.

BOC Holding Corolla Town Meeting
The Board of Commissioners will host a Town Meeting in Corolla on Thursday, May 21, 2009. This meeting will be held at the Corolla Fire Station in Whalehead, beginning at 7:00 p.m. For more information, contact the County Manager's office at 232-2075.

County Offices Closed For Memorial Day
The offices of Currituck County government will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2009 for the Memorial Day Holiday. All emergency services and 911 operations will be available as normal. County offices will re-open on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. 

Whalehead Boat Ramp Closed Due to Road Repairs
The boat ramp at Currituck Heritage Park in Corolla will be closed for approximately 10 days, beginning on Tuesday,May 26, 2009. This closure is due to repair work on Club Road, which leads to the boat ramp. For more information, contact the Whalehead Club at 453-9040. 

Senior Health & Fitness Day On Tap
Currituck County senior citizens have an excellent opportunity to receive health screenings, view educational exhibits, gather health and prescription drug information, and participate in movement activities with others during the 2009 Senior Health and Fitness Day.

This annual event will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at the Cooperative Extension facility. The program will begin at 8:30 a.m. with health screenings provided by Albemarle Regional Health Services. Participants must pre-register for the event, as well as reserve lunch. More

Check It Out! First Currituck Garden Tour
Currituck County residents have a wonderful first-time opportunity on Saturday, May 30, 2009 as the Currituck Master Gardeners and Cooperative Extension present the Currituck Garden Tour.

Six gardens throughout Currituck are scheduled for inclusion on this self-guided tour, which will cost $5.00 per ticket. These gardens will be open to the public from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Memorial Day Celebration On Schedule
Celebrate Memorial Day during a special ceremony on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Veterans' Memorial Park in Coinjock. The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m., during which the American Legion Post 288 will honor military members who have served and are currently serving our country. 4-H Summer Camp Information and Registration
The Currituck 4-H club is now accepting registration for its 2009 summer camps. 4-H is operated by Cooperative Extension. The summer day camps include Camp Cloverbud, for children ages 5 - 8, and 4-H/SOS Around the World in 5 Days for children ages 9 - 13. More
