KIES Students Witness Wedding During Field Trip
Students from Knotts Island Elementary School enjoyed more than the average tour of county facilities during a field trip on March 17. While in the county's Judicial Center, the students were invited to join the audience as a local couple exchanged wedding vows.
Mrs. Jennifer Roche's 2nd grade class visited several county departments, experienced a Detention Center holding cell, climbed aboard a fire truck and much more during their St. Patrick's day visit. More

NCDOT Announces Upcoming Road Closure
An overnight work project will close NC 615 in Knotts Island from 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 25 until 5:00 a.m., Thursday, March 26. DOT crews will replace a drainage pipe underneath the road.
The location of the closure on NC 615 is 0.12 miles north of White Neck Road (SR 1390).

Wild Horse Fund Enlists Students' Help
Elementary school students learned how they can participate in a campaign to have the Corolla Wild Horse breed named the State Horse of North Carolina.
During a March 18 assembly at the Cooperative Extension facility, Wild Horse Fund Director Karen McCalpin and Board of Commissioners Chairman Owen Etheridge spoke to fourth grade students from each elementary school about a letter writing campaign to have the Colonial Spanish Mustang recognized as the State Horse. The letters will target elected officials in both county and state governments, asking for support in this endeavor. More

OLF Community Forum to be Held in Camden
The Currituck and Camden Citizens Against an Outlying Landing Field will host a Community Forum on Saturday, March 21. This meeting is open to the public, and will be held at Camden Middle School, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
This forum will focus on the upcoming release of the Navy's Environmental Impact Study for the Hale's Lake site. Guidelines for making public comments to the Navy after this release will be discussed during the Community Forum.
