Since coming online in June, Currituck's new mainland water plant has begun delivering a higher quality water with an improved taste. The facility, located on Maple Road, began service in June and blends water treated by the reverse osmosis process with filtered water.

As a result, water customers receive a product that is much improved from the previous water supply. Among the new water's laboratory measurements, chloride levels are now 75 ppm, which is far below the state limit of 225 ppm, and hardness has been lowered from 130 ppm to 40 ppm. This results in improved taste and clarity of the water. More |

he onset of hurricane season is an excellent time for homeowners to review insurance policies and ensure adequate coverage for property. Since homeowner insurance policies exclude flood damage, citizens living in flood zones may consider purchasing flood insurance to offset potential flood damage. Property owners should also research insurance policies to determine coverage related to wind damage.
It is a good idea to make a complete inventory of personal property. Be sure to take pictures and write descriptions, then keep this information in a waterproof container.
Any citizen who is unsure of whether they reside in a flood zone may contact the Currituck Planning Department, which can provide much useful information regarding flood zones and Flood Insurance Rate Maps. Department staff can also provide information on the history of flooding in your area and advice on flood protection measures for your property. Citizens may contact the Planning Department offices on the mainland (252) 232-3055 or on the Outer Banks (252) 453-8555.
For hurricane preparedness checklists, tips on how to protect your property, evacuation information, and much more, contact the Emergency Management Department at (252) 232-2115.
Citizens can also find a great deal of emergency preparedness information on a variety of topics, as well as additional insurance information, at ReadyNC.org. |
