Commissioners to Host OLF Update Meeting

Currituck's Board of Commissioners will join Camden County Commissioners in a public meeting to discuss the Navy's proposed Outlying Landing Field. All residents are invited to attend this meeting, which will be held on Monday, January 12, at 4:00 p.m. in the Cooperative Extension facility.

The board members are expected to receive an update regarding strategy to oppose the OLF from representatives of French West Vaughan, a Raleigh marketing firm contracted to aid both counties in this effort, and Poyner & Spruill LLP.

Public Meeting to Discuss Corolla Greenway Proposal

Members of Currituck's Planning Department will host a community meeting on Thursday, January 22 to share information and receive public feedback regarding the proposed construction of the Corolla Greenway.

The proposed Greenway is a 1.06 mile multi-use path in the Corolla community. It would stretch from Currituck Heritage Park to a location near the Currituck Banks Coastal Reserve. Also included in the overall project would be a small park located at the path's midpoint. More

Holiday Lunch Includes Donation to Food Pantry

County employees added a measure of goodwill to the 2008 Holiday Lunch by making a sizeable donation to the food pantry at Pilmoor United Methodist Church. More

A large amount of non-perishable food was collected, as employees were asked to bring one item each to the luncheon, which was held on Dec. 23, 2008. This annual event honors county staff, elected officials and retirees, and highlights accomplishments achieved during the year.

Sheriff's Office Urges Caution with Wild Animals

County residents are advised to use caution in the presence of wild animals following a confirmed case of rabies in Corolla. A fox put down by Currituck Sheriff's Deputies on Dec. 27, 2008 was tested by state officials and determined rabid. The fox had attacked a citizen and his dogs.

Any suspicious behavior by a wild animal can be reported to Currituck Animal Control by calling 232-2216.
