Recycled Christmas Trees To Help Replenish Dunes
County Will Fortify Dunes Damaged in November Nor'easter

Residents of Currituck County can participate in a dune replenishment program by recycling their natural Christmas trees. County staff will collect Christmas trees from December 26, 2009 until January 10, 2010. Trees may be dropped off at any Currituck Recycling Center or the Southern Outer Banks Water Plant. Collection areas are designated by new signage at each site.

Recycled trees will be attached to new sand fencing at the base of dunes. During the nor'easter storm in November, several of Currituck's oceanfront dunes suffered a significant amount of erosion. More.
