Currituck County's 13 & Under Babe Ruth baseball team capped off a successful summer with a trip to the Southeast Regional Baseball Tournament, held in Pulaski, Tenn. from July 30 - Aug. 2, 2009. The team qualified for the regionals by winning the Eastern NC State Championship earlier in July.
At the regional tournament, Currituck won its first two games before a pair of one-run losses knocked the team out of the double-elimination format. More

The third branch of Currituck County's Public Library is on schedule to open this fall. Librarian Vicky Hagemeister said the Moyock Library, located on Tulls Creek Rd., will open to the public on October 1, 2009.
Hagemeister announced this exciting news on August 1, during Currituck's weekly radio show, "Public Matters." This show airs every Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. on WCDG, 92.1.

The Moyock Library will feature many of the programs currently offered by the library's branches in Barco and Corolla. In addition, an exhibition and activity space will be maintained by the Currituck Arts Council. For more information on this new facility, contact the Currituck Library at 453-8345.

United States Senator Richard Burr will visit Currituck County on August 12, 2009 to participate in the Grand Opening Celebration of the county's new mainland water plant. Sen. Burr will join members of the Board of Commissioners, county staff, and project officials in dedicating the new facility. The water plant is located on Maple Road.
This special event is expected to begin at 3:00 p.m., in accordance with Sen. Burr's travel schedule. |
Cooperative Extension Director Rodney Sawyer received a tremendous recognition by his peers across the state when he was selected for induction into the North Carolina 4-H Hall of Fame. Sawyer is the youngest member of the Hall's inaugural class, which included 100 inductees.
Sawyer, a Currituck native who has worked with Cooperative Extension for 30 years, was inducted during a July 21, 2009 ceremony in Raleigh. More

Currituck's Board of Elections will maintain a familiar look, as all three members were recently sworn in to begin a new term. Annette Argandona, Chris Hooper, and Barbara Snowden pledged the Oath of Office on July 30, 2009. The oath was administered by Assistant Clerk of Court Debbie Basnight. Each member is beginning a second consecutive term. More
