September is Voter Registration Awareness Month

Governor Beverly Perdue has proclaimed September as Voter Registration Awareness Month. The Currituck County Board of Elections would like to encourage all citizens of the county to exercise their right to vote. To vote in the General Election on November 2 you must be registered with our office. Also, if you have moved, changed your name, or wish to change your party affiliation, you need to update that information. The voter registration deadline for the November 2 General Election is Friday, October 8.

On November 2 Currituck County will elect locally the Board of Commissioners, (At-Large, Districts 3 & 5) Sheriff, Clerk of Superior Court, Board of Education, (At-Large, Crawford and Poplar Branch Townships) and Soil and Water Conservation Supervisor. Along with our local candidates we will also elect district and state offices. A sample ballot will be posted on the county's website as soon as it becomes available.

Important dates to remember concerning the General Election and voting in Currituck County:

  • Friday, September 3-Mailed Absentee ballots ready for voters to request an absentee ballot be mailed.
  • Friday, October 8-Voter registration deadline
  • Thursday, October 14-One-stop voting begins at the Currituck County Board of Elections Office, Governmental Center Complex, 2811 Caratoke Highway, Currituck. Office hours Monday-Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. One-stop voting is available for anyone wishing to cast their ballot early.
  • Tuesday, October 26-Last day to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you.
  • Saturday, October 30-One-stop voting ends. THIS IS THE ONLY SATURDAY THAT OUR OFFICE IS OPEN, 8 AM TO 1 PM.
  • Monday, November 1-Mailed absentee ballots must be received in our office, or if postmarked by day of election, received no later than 3 days after the election (Nov. 5)
  • Tuesday, November 2-GENERAL ELECTION DAY- Polling places open from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM.

Please exercise your right to vote either in person on Election Day, at the election office during the One-Stop voting, or by requesting an absentee ballot.
