United States Senator Richard Burr and North Carolina Representative Bill Owens joined Currituck County Commissioners, staff, project developers, and local citizens on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 to celebrate the Grand Opening of the new mainland water plant.

An outdoor ribbon-cutting ceremony highlighted the celebration, which was also attended by several local officials and business representatives. Board of Commissioners Chairman Owen Etheridge and Sen. Burr provided remarks about the project's success as the crowd gathered inside the plant near the reverse osmosis treatment center.

The new facility, located on Maple Road, currently produces approximately 1.5 million gallons per day of high quality water for Currituck residents and businesses. In addition to the treatment plant, the facility includes a certified laboratory, administrative offices, and a large customer service area with drive-up window for bill paying customers.
