Currituck County received a significant grant from the North Carolina Parks & Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) to help construct a multi-use path in Corolla. William G. Ross, Jr., Chairman of the N.C. Parks and Recreation Authority, announced on September 18, 2009 that Currituck will receive $500,000 to fund the Corolla Greenway project.

The Corolla Greenway project includes a planned 1.02 mile multi-use path to be constructed in Corolla. This path will be ten feet wide and ideally suited to walking, jogging and cycling. A small park to be located along the path is also planned. Once constructed, the path will stretch from Currituck Heritage Park to the Currituck Banks Coastal Reserve on a route that includes Historic Corolla Village.

PARTF is a matching grant program that will be supplemented with county funding. Currituck County was one of 85 applicants to request over $25.8 million in assistance from the N.C. Parks and Recreation Authority.
