Mosquito Spraying Program InformationCurrituck County Government began spraying for mosquitoes on Thursday, September 8, 2011. Aerial spraying was conducted at night on Monday, Sept. 19. It will continue at night on Tuesday, Sept. 20, weather permitting, to complete the aerial spraying of the entire county. The chemical Dibrom is being used in the spraying. * Bee Farms: Call Emergency Management at 232-2115 and provide your location prior to the spraying. The chemical Dibron is involved and may be toxic to bees. Residents are advised to take precautionary steps on their property to reduce mosquito problems. These tips include removing standing water in gutter, buckets, tires or other containers; emptying and changing water in bird baths, fountains and potted plant trays at least once a week; draining or filling temporary pools of water with dirt; and keeping swimming pool water treated and circulating. Citizens may also use EPA-registered mosquito repellants, wear long sleeves and pants, use head nets and stay inside during the evening when mosquitoes are active. Outdoor lights can be replaced with yellow lights to attract fewer mosquitoes, and windows and door screens should be made tight to prevent mosquitoes from entering a home. As information becomes available, updates on the spraying operation will be posted online at http://www.currituckgovernment.com/ and at CurrituckGov on Twitter. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
