Currituck schedules vegetative storm debris collection
Collection will begin on Monday, November 7. Please read the criteria for placing trees, stumps, and limbs in the right of way on public streets.
- Before you clean up debris, read these important safety tips for using a chainsaw.
- Contact your insurance agent before hiring a contractor to work on your property.
- Protect yourself against contractor fraud. Call the North Carolina Department of Justice to report suspicious or unfair contractors at 877-5-NO-SCAM (877-566-7226). Locally, you may also contact the Currituck Sheriff's Office at 252-453-8204 if you feel you might be the victim of a scam.
Report any major storm damage or destroyed homes to Emergency Management at 252-232-2115 or email Mary Newns. This information will help FEMA determine who may qualify for individual assistance.
At this time, Currituck County has not been approved for Individual Assistance
. The assessment team will be in the area on Friday, October 21. In the meantime, residents can start the application process with FEMA at www.disasterassistance.gov
or 800-621-3362. If the county is included in the designation, the application will be processed.
Businesses and rental property owners may be eligible for a disaster loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
For information about obtaining building permits or questions related to makingpost-storm repairs, contact the Currituck Permit Office at 252-232-3378.
- CAMA Emergency General Permit activated
Allows for replacement of piers and bulkheads, reconstruction of dunes, and dredging ditches damaged by Hurricane Matthew. For more information, contact the Planning Department at 252-232-3055.

Several political seats that concern Currituck County citizens are contested for the Tuesday, November 8, 2016 General Election.
To help Currituck Citizens know more about the candidates the Currituck Chamber of Commerce recently held a political forum for the contested seats.
Three questions important to Currituck citizens were given to each candidate. The candidates had three (3) minutes to address the issues and explain how they would handle the problem.
Early Voting begins Thursday, October 20 until Saturday, November 5, 2016.

at 7:00 p.m. in the Historic Currituck Courthouse.
The Senior Center Advisory Board will meet on the fourth Tuesday of January, April, July, and October at 9:30 a.m. in the Currituck Senior Center. Meetings were previously held on the third Tuesday.
