Detention Officers Complete Training at N.C. Justice Academy

Currituck County Sheriff Susan Johnson is proud to announce that Jonathon Benjamin Pittman, Brandon Emerson Robertson, and Christopher Alan Saunders recently completed training in the 2009 Detention Officer Certification Course at the North Carolina Justice Academy.

Officers' Pittman and Saunders have been employed as Detention Officers at the Currituck County Detention Center since August 1, 2008 and Officer Robertson since January 20, 2009.

Detention Certification Currituck Co SO.jpg The Detention Officer Certification Course provides students with the basic knowledge of operating procedures for local confinement facilities while developing the roles and responsibilities of a professional detention officer. Detention officers are taught the necessary skills required to supervise inmates and deal with the various daily functions of a detention facility.

This course is a five-week course taught by Mark Priest of the North Carolina Justice Academy in Salemburg. Officers Pittman, Robertson, and Saunders attended the course August 24 -September 25, 2009.

The North Carolina Justice Academy, located in Salemburg and Edneyville, develops and conducts training courses for local and state law enforcement professionals. The Justice Academy provides training programs and technical assistance for law enforcement professionals through the five centers of the Training Division: Tactical/Traffic; Investigations; Legal; Management and Commission/In-Service. The Justice Academy is a division of the North Carolina Department of Justice under the administration of Attorney General Roy Cooper.
