Special Announcement: Effective October 1, 2009 to April 30, 2010, curbside trash and recycling pickup in Corolla will take place on Wednesdays.
Yard Waste is NOT allowed in landfills and should not be placed into garbage carts. Waste Management will pick up yard waste if it is packaged correctly. Call Waste Management at 800-877-7531 to schedule a pickup and receive packaging instructions.
When scheduling a yard waste pickup, tell Waste Management that it is for the Currituck County - Corolla contract and provide the street address for the yard waste pickup.
Packaging yard waste correctly includes:
- Limbs and trimmings cut in pieces no longer than 4-feet, tied in bundles of not more than 2-feet in diameter and not weighing less than 70 pounds.
- Grass and weeds qualifying for collection shall be placed in boxes or bags of reasonable size and strength to permit loading into collection vehicles.
The Department of Public Works is comprised of the Engineering Division and the Building and Grounds Division.
The Engineering Division is charged with the following responsibilities:
- Investigates storm water runoff complaints and drainage concerns
- Determines needs for issuance of Land Disturbance Permits
The Building and Grounds Division is charged with the following responsibilities:
- Coordinating all County sanitation and recycling efforts
- Maintaining all County owned properties - buildings, building equipment, landscaping, vehicles and street signs
- Administering contracts for County projects and services
- Providing custodial services to County facilities
- Managing the mosquito population via inspection, treatment, and public awareness
What This Department Does Not Do
- Maintain NCDOT roads, right-of-ways and drainage ditches
- Provide garbage or trash pickup (except for the Corolla area)
- Provide installation services for culverts or driveways
- Provide water or sanitary sewer services
- Provide debris removal subsequent to natural disasters
