Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update:


A series of public meetings will offer county residents opportunities to help shape the future of Parks and Recreation in Currituck. The Parks and Recreation Department will conduct five public meetings to gather input regarding facilities and programs for citizens as it works to update its Master Plan.

The public meetings are scheduled as follows:
  • November 24, 2009:  Corolla Light Recreation Center, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
  • December 1, 2009:  Moyock Middle School, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
  • December 3, 2009:  Jarvisburg Elementary School, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
  • January 5, 2010:  Knotts Island Elementary School, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
  • January 7, 2010:  Currituck County High School, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Mission Statement:

The Parks and Recreation Department’s mission is to provide quality leisure services through safe and attractive facilities. It is the department’s goal to offer diversified passive and active recreational programs that meet the current and future needs of Currituck County.

The Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for planning and implementing youth and adult sports and activities, as well as providing and maintaining athletic facilities and public parks.

What This Department Does:

  • Offers youth athletic programs. These include: Flag Football, Tackle Football, Basketball, Soccer, Girls Volleyball, Wrestling, Cheerleading,
    Baseball and Softball.
  • Offers athletic programs for adults. These include: adult league softball (men and women) and a basketball league.
  • Operates the County’s public parks.
  • Maintains public walking/hiking/horseback trail.
  • Operates Currituck County Special Olympics

  • Issue ATV permits for the North Beach (click here for an ATV permit)
  • Conduct hang gliding classes at the Currituck Airport
  • Take reservations for school facilities from citizens
