Other 911 Information
The 9-1-1 surcharge that appears on your telephone bill helps to support the operation of 9-1-1 equipment and the fixed facilities that support its operation. Each household and business pays a small monthly fee for 9-1-1 service. Currently, the surcharge rate for Currituck County is $.70/per line.
There is no per-call charge for calling 9-1-1 ; however, if an ambulance is dispatched through 9-1-1 , you may be charged for transporting the patient to the hospital. This is not a 9-1-1 charge.
Wireless phones also have a $.70/per line surcharge.

Things To Know About Wireless Phones
- Wireless calls may be answered in different town or county. Do not assume the dispatcher "knows" your location.
- Radio signals do not always travel the most direct route and may "bounce" out of your local area.
- If your call is disconnected, the dispatcher may be unable to call you back depending upon your cellular service.
- You must carefully describe your location. If you don't know the exact address, use prominent landmarks - buildings or features that most people will recognize.
