The Currituck County Sheriff's Office employs personnel in various positions of service which include deputies, detention officers, animal control officers, administration, and support staff. All employees must be of good moral character, possess a high school diploma, have appropriate training and certification for their profession, and have no prior criminal record.

Below are examples of the positions at our agency. If you feel you are qualified and/or have experience in any of these areas, we would like for you to come by our main facility and complete an application form.

Deputy Sheriff: (CURRENTLY NO OPENINGS)

Must be certified as a Deputy Sheriff or be able to successfully complete the course requirements of the NC Sheriff's Training and Standards Division.

Duties include:

enforcing federal, state, and local criminal laws
enforcing state civil laws
enforcing county ordinances
serving criminal and civil processes
applying Community Policing concept
carrying out community relations

Detention Officer: (CURRENTLY NO OPENINGS)

Must be certified as a Detention Officer or be able to successfully complete the course requirements of the NC Sheriff's Training and Standards Division.

Duties include:

applying the protocols and procedures adopted by the Sheriff to protect the general population from dangerous incarcerated persons
perform booking of prisoners
other duties as required for inmate management

Animal Control Officer: (CURRENTLY NO OPENINGS)

Must successfully complete all required courses relating to animal control.

Duties include:

enforcing state and local laws concerning domestic animals
promoting animal vaccination and welfare

Administrative and Support Staff: (CURRENTLY NO OPENINGS)

These positions include Administrative Assistants, clerks, etc. All require experience and proficiency in the prescribed field, as well as a clean criminal record.
