Absentee Voting

Who May Vote Absentee

Any registered voter in Currituck County may request to vote an absentee ballot by mail or in person at the Board of Elections office.

Applying By Mail


To apply for an absentee ballot by mail, send a written request to:

P.O. Box 177
Currituck, NC 27929

Include the following information:
  • name, printed and signed
  • address in Currituck County
  • address in which you want the ballot mailed
  • party affiliation, if a primary election
  • date of birth
  • telephone number or contact number
You may submit your request No Later than the Tuesday prior to the Election Day. The request can be made by the voter, a near relative or verifiable legal guardian. Upon receipt of your request, you will be sent an absentee ballot, an application on a container-return envelope, and instructions for completing the ballot.

Voting Your Absentee Ballot
  1. Mark your ballot.
  2. Place it inside the container-return envelope and seal.
  3. Complete the application printed on the container-return envelope.
  4. Have one witness who is at least 18 years of age sign the container-return envelope.
  5. Place postage on container-return envelope and mail.
  6. Follow instructions completely provided by the Elections office.

Return Your Absentee Ballot

Mailed absentee ballots must be received in our office by 5:00 p.m. the day before the election or if postmarked by the day of the election, no later than 3 days after the election.
